I am a lazy blogger as of late. It's been FOUR WEEKS since my last post. Seriously? Where did July go?
I'm also not feeling very inspired/artistic/creative/<insert something that is not the word tired here> lately. Saying that I'm not feeling tired would be a horrible falsification. I'm exhausted.
I am, however, a glutton for being busy.
I do it to myself. I make very conscious choices to take on the projects that keep me occupied so I can't really complain about the lack of free time. I also still have seven days of vacation that I'm supposed to use up by September 15th but considering my company is opening two stores in the month of September, that is looking doubtful. I don't lose the days after that date but my boss is convinced if we roll over our vacation into the next year, we'll take a whole month straight and chaos will inevitably ensue.
Meanwhile, I have been browsing the web in my free time and I'll try to start being better about posting things.
Leigh Viner is my new favorite.

I pretty across-the-board dislike stars but I more than make up for it with my love of stripes. This bag is only $10!! I want to buy up a hundred and just hand them out to strangers that look like they're having a bad day for the colors are so unabrasively cheery.

Vintage Bird Pillow Sham || $29
I want this pillowcase. And some free time to blog. I keep finding things I want to write about but I've been so exhausted with work/life lately, I have been bad about actually getting around to posting them.
How great would this ice cream school be this weekend for Fourth of July picnics? It reminds me of the one my parents have!

I spent the weekend in Baltimore with my three sisters. My third sister just moved there for graduate school so we got together to see the house that she and her husband just bought and to see the city. I’ve lived in the mid-Atlantic for almost a decade now and I’ve only ever been to Baltimore for music shows so it was fun to wander a bit.
In between trips to IKEA, toddler naps (ok, and adult naps) and catching up with each other, we went to the Hampden neighborhood and...
shopped at Red Tree...
ate at Golden West,
and coveted everything in Paradiso.

When I made this recipe
from Gourmet the first time, it was an instant hit with my guests. The second
time, I accidentally added too much sugar and it was still a hit, albeit a little more dessert-wine than
dinner-wine, so I know this is a quality recipe. I'm not big on
sweet drinks so I've taken out the sugar, letting the peach nectar sweeten it
instead but since we just harvested over thirty pounds of honey from our hives on
Tuesday, I might just have to add a bit in for a sweet treat. I also added in a
can of ginger ale to give it a little fizz since I prefer my sangria sans ice. Peach Basil Sangria (adapted from Gourmet Magazine, July 2005)
Put basil leaves, honey, peach nectar and
lemon juice into a small saucepan and bruise leaves by mashing with a wooden
spoon. Bring just to a simmer, stirring until honey is dissolved. Remove from
heat and let stand 5 minutes, then pour into a heatproof pitcher. Stir in wine,
peach, ginger ale, and basil sprigs. Chill, covered, at least 1 hour and up to
24. Serve over ice.

I know my body well enough to know that this dress would look good on me only about 4% of the time. The 4% of time where I might have eaten a light dinner the night before, ingested zero salt the past week and miraculously hit the ever-elusive goal of drinking eight glasses of water every day. So basically the 4% of time where I don't have a pooch. Does everyone call them pooches? That's what we call them in my family but jersey fabric + my immense love of salt = unflattering. Either way, I'm coveting this outfit today, regardless of its realtime applicability on my body.
Chevron Dress || $108, Horsetail Necklace #96 || $55, Tier in Grey || $75
Another reason this dress wouldn't work for me is that my arms are covered in red bumps. At first I thought they were bug bites, and then poison ivy, but now I'm convinced I have some rare skin disorder and I am forever cursed with itchy, splotchy hands. Any ideas?

I really need to start buying larger art. I have an inclination for small prints, partially because they are more affordable than originals but also because I like being able to mix and match smaller pieces around my apartment. But now I have so many prints that it's starting to look cluttered and I just want big pieces to anchor them all down.
(currently hanging in my bathroom)
Before I make a paradigm shift of my art purchasing habits, I must mention that one of my favorite artists right now for this is Matou en Peluche out of Sydney, Australia. My sister had sent me a link to a print she wanted for her birthday and I ended up getting it for her plus four prints for myself. I'm completely enamored with all the birds and dark haired women that upon revisiting her site this morning, I found more prints I simply must have. Seriously, I'm going to have to change the name of this blog to "I-only-cook-recipes-from-Smitten-Kitchen-and-order-art-from-Matou-en-Peluche" if I don't start branching out a little.
